Calm in Chaos

Daniel 2:26-28 NIV:

The king said to Daniel, “Is this true? Can you tell me what my dream was and what it means?” Daniel replied, “There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king’s secret. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown what will happen in the future.

King Nebuchadnezzar was visited by God in a dream. This pagan leader was greatly disturbed and impetuously sentenced all magicians, enchanters, and counselors to death if they could not tell him his dream and its interpretation. Daniel and his friends were set to be executed.

Daniel calmly went to God for understanding and spoke calmness to the king and the chaos. By being able to hear from heaven, Daniel gained great influence and saved many lives.

We all have the ability to hear from God and speak calm to chaos. At year 17 of our marriage, Stacy and I were in chaos. Tensions, hurt feelings, misunderstandings, and a sense of hopelessness were pretty much the norm. We were in the middle of a major fight coming home from Dallas one day when the Holy Spirit spoke. He gave us wisdom to see each other and see ourselves. With that insight, we replaced anger with compassion for one another. In less than five minutes, the Holy Spirit gave us answers to our mystery that brought calm to our chaos and set us on the path toward healing.

1 Corinthians 2:13-15 NLT says:

…We do not use words that come from human wisdom. Instead, we speak words given to us by the Spirit, using the Spirit’s words to explain spiritual truths. But people who aren’t spiritual can’t receive these truths from God’s Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can’t understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

Our world is in chaos. God is going to open doors for us to have influence like Daniel by use of these gifts. Pray for the gifts of wisdom, discernment, and prophecy. Practice and gain confidence.

Prayer:

Father, You’ve given us Your Spirit and endowed us with gifts. We ask for the gift of prophecy, words of wisdom, words of knowledge, and discerning of spirits (1 Corinthians 12:7-11; 1 Corinthians 14:1). Increase our ability to hear spiritual thoughts and to speak spiritual words to calm the storm of chaos. Give us boldness to be witnesses for You as You increase our influence, in Jesus’ name!
