Daniel 7:9-10 NLT
I watched as thrones were put in place and the Ancient One sat down to judge. His clothing was as white as snow, his hair like purest wool.
He sat on a fiery throne with wheels of blazing fire, and a river of fire was pouring out, flowing from his presence. Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him. Then the court began its session, and the books were opened.
Daniel 1-6 is history. Daniel 7-12 is prophecy. I want to simplify the complex visions of Daniel for the sake of our devotional prayer times. Daniel saw 490 years of future events. 483 of those years have already happened, leaving one 7-year period yet to be fulfilled. We are currently living in anticipation of the missing 7-year period to begin. It could start at any time.
In Chapter 7, Daniel sees a split-screen vision. He sees corrupt kings, rulers, and vile sins happening on the earth. But as these are playing out, he sees what’s happening in heaven at the same time. A courtroom is being prepared, and God is about to judge all mankind.
What the people on earth right now don’t see or understand is that a courtroom is in preparation now to adjudicate their lives. The consequences are eternal and urgent. If only they knew.
This is a vision of the Great White Throne judgment of Revelation 20. A Book of Life will be opened. And the books of all the activities of our life will also be opened. Everyone whose name is not found in the Book of Life will be judged by his own works from the books and sentenced to hell. Everyone found in the Book of Life will be saved, and his works judged for the purpose of rewards.
The only question that will be asked of every human is: Did you give your life to the One who gave His life for you? A life for a life. That’s it!
Understanding the gravity of this one human decision, what will you do? Are you ready to give an account for your life? Are there people in your life who need to be warned of the urgency of getting their name in the Book of Life? What is the Holy Spirit speaking to you? Urgency should be rising in your spirit as we prepare to pray today.
Prayer
Holy Father, You are the Ancient of Days who will judge my life. Wash and cleanse me from all sin and every action, attitude, and offense that You deem unacceptable. Save my friends. Save my family. Anoint me, and fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit to make me an effective witness of You to others, in Jesus’ name!
