Grace is the great message of the Gospel. Not one of us deserves God’s favor, for if our lives, our motives, our words, and our inmost thoughts were exposed, who could stand? Yet even as Moses raised the bronze serpent in the wilderness to save those bitten by venomous snakes, God raised up Jesus and asked that we reach out to Him. We’ve been bitten by sin, and it’s deadly. No amount of good works can save us. No self-flagellation will free us.
God built a Bridge over the chasm between heaven and its holiness and earth and its sinfulness. This Bridge is Jesus, and we are all invited to cross over, regardless of our sinful condition. We do not have to work for our salvation. It is a free gift of God! This is the truth that blew Martin Luther away and ushered in the Protestant Reformation. “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works so that no one can boast” (Ephesians 2:8-9 NIV).
Will you accept His grace? Will you let Him wash you clean of all your guilt?
