Jeremiah 51:11 MSG
“Sharpen the arrows! Fill the quivers! GOD has stirred up the kings of the Medes, infecting them with war fever: ‘Destroy Babylon!’ GOD’s on the warpath. He’s out to avenge his Temple. God is out for vengeance for His Temple.
Revelation 18:8 MSG
In one day, disasters will crush her (Babylon) — death, heartbreak, and famine — then she’ll be burned by fire, because God, the Strong God who judges her, has had enough.
God has had enough! A day of vengeance for our God is coming.
Jeremiah wrote to Daniel held captive in old Babylon. John the Revelator writes to you and me held captive in new Babylon. One is Old Testament history. One is New Testament future – our future.
The book of Daniel shows us the avenging side of our God. Babylon dared to invade His temple, take the sacred elements consecrated for worship, and commit an abomination of desecration. The vengeance of God was stirred, and God went on the “warpath.” The very night that Belshazzar desecrated the temple elements, God had enough. The handwriting was on the wall, and Babylon suddenly and violently fell in one day.
The book of Revelation resurrects this vengeance of God again and for the same cause. Babylon has desecrated the temple of God and treated the holy elements consecrated for worship as garbage. But where is the temple of God in the new covenant? It is in us! We are the temple of the Holy Spirit. God is keeping a record of every abuse of His people. He considers the abuse to us, His temple, a personal matter of vengeance. And God will cause both people and spirits to drink the full cup of His wrath (Revelation 14:10).
As you read of all the dreadful events coming upon the earth, take heart. Our God is on the warpath in those times. He stands to avenge us. Let your heart take courage and rest today. We are His consecrated elements of worship and He will avenge His church. The day is coming when God has had enough!
Prayer
Father, thank You for being my defense! You are my Avenger and my Protector. Rise up, O God, and scatter the enemy. All power and dominion are Yours. You are my champion, in Jesus’ name!
