Wise Parting Words

Daniel 12:8-10 NLT

“How will all this finally end, my lord?” But he said, “Go now, Daniel, for what I have said is kept secret and sealed until the time of the end. Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials…Only those who are wise will know what it means.

“Only those who are wise” will know what these events mean and how to walk in confidence. The Holy Spirit placed these parting words here for wisdom, not fear: Many will be purified, cleansed, and refined by these trials.

Peter writes, “Dear friends, don’t be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you” (1 Peter 4:12-13 NLT). Peter is taking the “shock value” out of trials. There is a Christian delusion, especially for us American evangelicals, that we are exceptional and somehow sequestered from suffering. “Our faith is superior, and we don’t have to endure this.”

Wise people know what is normal and what is not. Suppose a young, pregnant woman was anxious because of her weight gain. She may wonder, “What’s wrong with my body?” Morning sickness comes, and she’s fearfully panicked, thinking, “This can’t be right. I’m really sick.” Then the birth pains. “I’m dying.” But if a wise, older woman simply says to her, “Baby girl, this is normal. You’re not dying; all pregnant women go through this. It’s normal.” Her soul would return to peace. Worry turns to calm. Excitement for the coming baby would prevail.

As we say goodbye to Daniel, the Holy Spirit is giving us the wisdom to steady our hearts.

Don’t overreact in fear at the news – the violence, immorality, division, moral decay, corruption in government, or any shocking event. These are just birth pains. It’s normal. The Holy Spirit of God will sustain you until a whole new world is birthed. Get excited!

Go now, Daniel. We must part for now, but we will see you again.

Go now, friend. 2024 needs all you’ve received during these 37 days. You’re ready! You’re equipped! Let’s go!
